Episode 242: Is Moderation Ever an Option?

In this episode, I had an interesting conversation with Dr. Joseph Volpicelli about the idea that some people in the early stages of losing control over their drinking may benefit from therapy and naltrexone as a means of not stopping but instead, moderating their drinking. This may be a controversial topic among those of us in the recovery community, especially those of us involved with Twelve-Step Groups, but what does science say?

Dr. Volpicell’s research was the first to identify naltrexone as an opiate blocker useful for treating addiction to alcohol. He has been researching addiction and treating addicts for over forty years, and he was kind enough to answer my questions and share his knowledge and learning with me. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I liked participating.
